I grew up in Pennsylvania with my two brothers, raised by my grandmother. When my grandmother died in 2012 I decided my family needed a change so a few months later my two daughters Jacinda and Nemesis and my brother John packed up and decided to move to New Orleans to be with my brother Mark (who had already been here a few years). The transition has been great but I still felt like I was missing something.
Living in a shotgun with a 17 year old and a 7 year old can be a struggle at times. Especially in a house with no heat. I’ve always dreamed of being a homeowner and now I also can’t wait to have separate bedrooms again!
A couple of my friends have completed the Habitat program and recommended the program. I’m so happy they did; I can’t wait for my house to be finished. I’ll have a home to truly call my own and I will be so proud to show my daughters with hard work and dedication all goals are possible.
