Habitat Success Stories

Wilkens Family

My name is Syeisha Wilkens and I am a native of New Orleans, Louisiana.  I am a single mother of a three year old son, whose name is Kyran. I am the middle child of three children. I have an older sister and a younger brother. Also, I am an aunt of two handsome nephews.

Currently I am employed at Winn Dixie on Airline Highway in Metairie, Louisiana and I have been employed with the same company for the last 19 years. Prior to Hurricane Katrina I used to live in the Upper Ninth Ward and I am so happy to be able to return to the same neighborhood once my house is being built.

I am blessed with an opportunity to become a homeowner through New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. Without the help of this organization I do not think I would have been able to own a home. I learned about Habitat 9 years ago, as my mother is also a Habitat partner. She successfully completed the program became a homeowner too.

“Thank God for Habitat for Humanity for making one of my dreams come true.”
