Peters Family
My name is Martin (Marty) Peters, and although I wasn’t born here in New Orleans it is where I call home. I am originally from New Haven, CT and I am 27 years old. I am a musician with my bachelor’s degree in jazz studies, and after spending only a few days visiting this city, after school, I realized that this is the place for me. Once down here I have been amazed at the quality of live music, and have had an incredible time becoming a part of the music scene.
I have started my own project with a gypsy style jazz quarter (Kala Bazaar Swing Society) as well as playing with several other bands focused on the traditional jazz repertoire. And, although I am starting to play several gigs a week around Frenchman Street and in the quartet, financially speaking, it isn’t the easiest thing in the world to be able to save for a future.
New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity offers me the rare opportunity to have the security of homeownership in a time when rents are on the rise, as well as an investment in my own future. In essence, I am being given the chance to put down roots and contribute to the culture and life of New Orleans, and for that I couldn’t be more grateful or excited!.
