Habitat Success Stories

Magee Family

My name is Rashad Magee, a true New Orleanian, born and raised in “Da East”. I am the middle child of Robert and Margaret Magee, having two sisters, Tyra (older) and Shutell (baby). I am also the proud father of one daughter, Rashell. One of my passions in life is food and most of jobs have centered around this concept, as I have worked in several restaurants throughout the French Quarter as a line cook.  Currently, I am employed at Pat O’Brien Restaurant.

Life wasn’t always simple. I had a father with financial problems, buy my mother was truly the rock of our family. In times of my life, there were moments where home was not a guaranteed “thing.”  My father tried, but struggled to keep his family in a safe and secure environment and home.  These early memories made a lasting impression because our constant move from home to home gave me a feeling  of insecurity and the knowledge of what I wanted and did not want for myself in the future.

At the age of 35, I am working in breaking the cycle of living a vagabond existence. I am determined that my first home will be my only home. I thank God for opening up many doors and avenues for me to succeed in life. One of the most important doors is NOAHH (New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity) in helping me secure not only my dreams, but hopefully a better legacy for my child.  Cliché’ though it may be, I can see the future, my future and it is bright, INDEED!
