Habitat Success Stories

Kottemann Family

My name is Ashley Kottemann. I am a New Orleans native and absolutely love the culture this city offers.  I grew up Uptown and attended St. Mary’s Dominican High School. I also attended Louisiana State University and later Delgado Community College where I earned an associate’s degree in business.  I am 29 years old and a single mother. I have one child, Gabriel, and he is 6 years old. Gabriel currently attends Lycee Francais de la Nouvelle-Orleans. He is studying both the French and English languages. Gabriel is my angel. He has absolutely changed my life for the better, and helps me to push through life’s difficult struggles. I have always wanted to be a home owner and have something to offer to my son in the future. However, with being a single mother and receiving low income, I did not see how that would ever be possible. The financial struggle kept me in tears for many years. I currently work at Bank of New Orleans and have been with the company for 6 years. I started working for BNO a few months after Gabriel was born. I started as a teller and worked my way up to a savings officer position.  I found out about the Habitat for Humanity program through some coworkers and decided to look into it and see if this program would work for me and my son. I am blessed to say that it has! Habitat for Humanity has truly been a blessing to my family, and I am happy to say that with this program I am able to reach my goal as a home owner. Now, Gabriel and I can start to have a better quality of life.
