My name is Stephanie Bruer, and I’m a single mother of three girls, Alan’te (14), Armon’te (8), and Alexus (6) and one son Alex (10). I lived in LaPlace, Louisiana, for 28 years until Hurricane Isaac destroyed my home in 2012. I then relocated to Kenner, Louisiana, and have been living there for the last four years.
I have been in a desperate search for a permanent home since then. I tried to go through real estate agencies and loan brokers to get a home, but not having enough money nor credit it was hard for me to get my chance for a home of my own. Then a co-worker and I were talking about home ownership, and I asked her how she went about getting her house. She told me about how her daughter went through a program called Habitat for Humanity to get a house. I went home and looked up Habitat for Humanity trying to see what they were about. After a few days of researching I finally called and set up an appointment to come in. Going through Habitat was the best thing I could have ever done for me and my family. I’m glad my kids will always have a place to call home.
