Collegiate Challenge

A Collegiate Challenge trip may be the best school break trip you will ever have. What other program gives you and your friends an opportunity to travel to the state of your choice and spend a week rebuilding homes in one of America’s most cherished cities? You'll have the chance to learn carpentry skills and make a real difference in eliminating substandard housing.

Collegiate Challenge is a nationwide program run by Habitat for Humanity International.  By choosing to work in New Orleans, you will be working with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

If you are looking for a way to represent your College in the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast and:

  • a group of 5 or more College students,
  • at least 18 years of age, and
  • interested in volunteering for 3 days or more...

Please join our Collegiate Challenge Program!

Step 2: Reserve your spot  and complete the registration process with Habitat for Humanity International.  Your work dates will fall within one construction week (Tuesday-Saturday).  Your group is welcome to volunteer for more than one week!

Step 8: Your group will need to organize your own transportation to and from the airport and to and from the work site.  Camp Hope will provide you with three meals a day.  Breakfast is 6:00am-7:30pm and dinner is 5:30pm-7:00pm.  At breakfast, items will be available to make your own bag lunches to bring with you to the work site.  You are not required to eat all of your meals at Camp Hope.  If you decide to eat out for dinner, please inform the front desk the day of so that they can plan accordingly.

Step 9: Our construction sites start work at 7:30am and finish at 3:00pm .  After your work day, your group is free to explore the city or work with other organizations.  Please remember to get a full night’s rest so that you have a safe and rewarding construction experience on the next day.  As a reminder, the curfew at Camp Hope is 12:00am Monday-Thursday and 2:00am Friday-Sunday.
