New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore supports the affiliate’s building activities by raising funds through the sales of new or slightly used building materials offered to the public at 10-90% off retail prices. Volunteers help process and merchandise these building materials. Shopping the ReStore helps support New Orleans Habitat’s building efforts.

Volunteer Opportunities

When you volunteer at the Habitat ReStore, you help us give even more resources to support New Orleans Habitat for Humanity’s mission to eliminate poverty housing. Volunteers meet fun, engaging new people while helping the community to recycle.

Volunteers are a critical part of making the ReStore successful and creating a wonderful experience for our customers, donors and visitors. A typical volunteer day at the ReStore involves participating in one of the roles below.

Truck Driver’s Assistant
ReStore Truck Driver's Assistants travel throughout the Greater New Orleans area to pick up donations of building materials, appliances and other similar items for resale. These assistants make it possible for the ReStore to constantly update its inventory, and help promote positive interactions with donors in the community. Skills/Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Dock Assistant
This position helps on the loading dock and in the store to accept and process donations of materials. If you enjoy getting a little dirty, and definitely getting a work-out, this position is for you! Dock Assistants help us cycle materials through the store, from unloading our trucks, pricing and setting items on the floor, to helping load a customer’s final purchase. Skills/Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Sales Floor Volunteer
Volunteers in this position will greet and assist customers, manage one or more sections of the store, and help us research prices for merchandise. You will also help keep store sections stocked and tidy.
Skill/Requirements: Enjoy working with people/customer service, customer service, detail-oriented.

Handyperson
This position is for people who are handy, enjoy carpentry and repairs, and want to help Habitat! We receive donations of furniture that need repairs, refinishing, or other care. This volunteer position will also help us build shelving and displays for our wide selection of ever-changing inventory.Skills/Requirements: Basic woodworking ability and familiarity with tools is required.


Groups

Volunteer groups are welcome and appreciated at the ReStore! Groups help us fill the roles above, and may also assist ReStore staff and other volunteers in accepting donations, cleaning and pricing items, preparing merchandise for sale, and special merchandising/store appearance projects.
