Texas Roadhouse

Texas Roadhouse Restaurants came roaring into New Orleans and the hearts of the Habitat family in January of 2006 with a superb demonstration of physical and financial assistance. Texas Roadhouse, a casual dining chain that first opened in 1993, and today operates 263 restaurants in 44 states of the USA, committed to the building of eight houses, four of which have already been completed in the Upper Ninth ward.

They are known as "Roadies" throughout the company, and their corporate-employee generosity for NOAHH comes mainly from the restaurants and the Corporate Support Center in Louisville, KY. They converged on the City to help put finishing touches on the first of several Homes in a Box. Their first project is now a home for Walter and Betty Alexis, 60 years married, and victimized by Hurricane Katrina of their Ninth Ward home and all of its contents.

Texas Roadhouse restaurants in Tulsa, OK, Indianapolis, IN, Chicago, IL and Wilmington, N.C., raised both the funds and resources necessary to build another house. Roadhouse teams from Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, Louisiana, New York, Texas, Alabama, Iowa, Arkansas and Tennessee have also been instrumental in accomplishing recent Habitat builds. The Roadhouse team in Cleveland has partnered with the S.S. Kemp Company to sponsor two homes, and were joined in the effort by the Roadhouse in Portage, Michigan, which had just recently opened.

Based in Louisville, Ky., Texas Roadhouse opened its doors in 1993. In just 16 years, the company has grown to more than 250 locations in 43 states. In 2006, readers of Consumer Reports magazine voted Texas Roadhouse as the top concept in the Pub/Grill category, and Forbes magazine ranked the company as one of the 200 Best Small Companies.
