New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity Appoints
Five New Board Members
Board Elects New Executive Committee

February 4, 2009 (NEW ORLEANS, LA). The Board of Directors of New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) has appointed five new board members who will serve a term of three years. New board members include Taylor Beery, Katie Crosby, Katherine Harmon, Rose Lo and Phoebe Roaf.

Phoebe Roaf is currently the Associate Rector at Trinity Episcopal Church. She has worked with Habitat affiliates in Philadelphia, PA; Richmond, VA; and New Orleans. Her interest in being part of the NOAHH board stems from a want to actively participate in the rebuilding efforts in the city. “I returned to New Orleans last June and have been looking for ways to make a difference in the community,” stated Phoebe Roaf, new NOAHH Board Member. “Working directly with New Orleans Habitat is a great way to do it.”

Katie Crosby, President of Homestead Title Corporation and Vice Chair of the board of Fidelity Homestead, has been active on Habitat builds through her son’s school’s commitment to Habitat. Crosby was also a member of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project Steering Committee with New Orleans Habitat in 2008. “Habitat has served such a vital role in this community and I am thrilled to have been asked to be a member of the board,” commented Katie Crosby.

Taylor Beery, vice president with Frantzen, Voelker and Conway Investments; brings valuable insight to the board having served as the Director of Policy and Research for the Office of the Federal Coordinator for Gulf Coast Rebuilding.

Katherine Harmon, President of LKHarmonArchitects, has always admired New Orleans Habitat’s work. “I am looking forward to the satisfaction of putting my 24 years of expertise in design and construction to work for Habitat
Rose Lo, owner of Five Happiness Restaurant, has previously served as a member of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project Steering Committee with New Orleans Habitat in 2008. She has also had the opportunity to work with Habitat by volunteering to build in the Upper Ninth Ward. “I am most looking forward to assisting with New Orleans Habitat’s mission to eradicate poverty housing,” added Rose Lo. “As a native New Orleanian, I have seen the need for housing and the success New Orleans Habitat is having in addressing the situation.”

Additionally, the NOAHH Board elected officers for 2009: Rob Worley, Monarch Real Estate Advisors – President; Chimene Connor, Audubon Institute – Vice President of Community Relations; Mike Flores, GCR & Associates – Vice President Special Projects; Bill Wright, Deutsch Kerrigan & Stiles – Vice President Finance and Andy Lee, Jones Walker – Secretary.

New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. NOAHH builds new houses in partnership with sponsors, volunteers, communities, and homeowner families to eliminate poverty housing in the New Orleans area while serving as a catalyst to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Since its inception in 1983 NOAHH has built over 300 new homes for low-income families in need of adequate shelter. NOAHH plans to continue to build homes in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles and Plaquemines Parishes. www.habitat-nola.org
