Habitat News: Musicians Village House dedications • National Building Museum Honors Musicians' Village Founders Musicians Village House dedications
Freddy Omar, receives the key to his new home from GJ Hart, CEO Texas Roadhouse JD,and Polly Noble with Jim Pate outside their new home Patricia Richard , her son and Coca-Cola staff outside their new home June 1st 2006, was a milestone of sorts. It marked the begining of the hurricane season. But more importantly to three New Orleans families , it marked a day of hope and renewal. New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity dedicated three homes at the Musicians Village yesterday, the first of over eighty homes to be built at the site. "We expect to be a catalyst for renewal and repopulation of the Upper Ninth Ward through this project, said Jim Pate NOAHH Executive Director. "As many as 350 homes will be built in the community through the Musicians Village Project" The event was graced by sponsors who included Bob Wright Chairman and CEO NBC Universal , and his wife Suzanne Wright, Scott Young, Central Region Vice President, Food Service and Hospitality Division Coca-Cola North America, GJ Hart, CEO Texas Roadhouse , Musical icon Ellis Marsalis, Anne Marie Wilkins and NOAHH Habitat Board members. "To everyone who helped me realise the dream of homeownership, i say thank you from the bottom of my heart" said Patricia Richard one of the new homeowners. In between sobs she added " I have received so much and its overwhelming. Thanks for giving me hope and a place to raise my children" The crowd was treated to Salsa music by Freddy Omar, one of the new homeowners who is also a long time New Orleans Musician. JD and his band the Jammers also performed their unique brand of New Orleans Blues.
