President Bush Visits the Musicians Village

President Bush paid a visit Thursday to Musicians Village, talking with volunteers and pounding nails at the construction site in the Upper 9th Ward. The president accompanied by Governor Kathleen Blanco, Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson and New Orleans Mayor, Ray Nagin, joined volunteers in the reconstruction efforts at the Habitat for Humanity rebuilding site on North Roman Street. The President, Blanco, Nagin and Jefferson strapped on tool belts and hoisted triangular roof beam sections up to laborers scampering across the wooden skeletons of new houses.
The four then went inside the framework, began to shake hands and chat with individual volunteers, and then Nagin and Bush climbed on stepladders and started hammering nails handed up to them by Blanco and Jefferson.
It was a great day and one that underscored the importance of New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity's efforts in restoring the lives of displaced musicians and reviving the communities in the Upper Ninth Ward
